At nine years old, Israfel Shae ran out of good books to read. Torn between stories all plot and no soul, and books written hundreds of years ago, she dubbed herself "The Betweener" and set out to write stories with the power of classics and the punch of modern fiction. This dream became an obsession at fourteen and Keepers of the Keys was written, a debut that forges the way for many more to come. Now her dream is to support Betweeners like her, who wonder "Are there any good books left?", and inspire them to find the fantasy inside them.
Israfel lives in the wilds of Arkansas with her two little brothers, her mom, and her herd of cats. When she is not staring out the window, removing cats from on top of keyboards, and searching for stray pens in the couch cushions, she is reading classics, wandering through the woods, or preparing for the day books are great again. Among the books that inspired her are The Lord of the Rings, Wingfeather Saga, and The Chronicles of Pridain.
